Loyalty is one of my top core values as well as a definite need in my relationships. In fact, I say to people all the time that I am loyal to a fault; meaning my loyalty can, at times be irrational or extreme. I think we have all been there a time or two if we are honest. When we know that we are standing on the wrong side of right; because of some known or unknown allegiance to a person, place or thing, we continue down a path that is not profitable. Are you tracking with me??  Well today I learned of an event that took placed in Congress on Monday, February 25, 2019 that seems to be an example of the quintessential loyal to a fault.

On Monday, according to washingtonpost.com, “the Senate voted to block consideration of a measure that would punish any doctor who fails to provide medical care to a child born alive after an attempted abortion.”  It was call the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Meaning, if a baby is born alive after a failed attempt at abortion, the doctor and/or health care providers present are not required to care for that baby as they would a baby born under any other circumstances. So the reports were, “Democrats voted to killed babies”, in Tuesday’s news. Here is where this loyalty idea comes into play…who cares at this point what political party you are associated with, this essentially is murdering a premature baby. Now to be clear infanticide (intentionally killing a child within the first year of birth) is already illegal. Which is some’s argument, why make a bill to enforce something that is already illegal? Right? Here is why: bills are also being presented to lift the restrictions on abortion laws, which include but are not limited to: abortions through the third trimester with only one physician’s approval, the elimination of procedures and processes surrounding abortion and having abortions performed in a hospital. So now a stated law is needed so that once the baby is born, unintentionally, he or she has rights as any other child. They no longer are considered a fetus to be aborted, they are babies, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these is LIFE.  And in the U.S. to be coupled with appropriate medical care.

On so many levels, I am appalled! I would be the first to say don’t be a traitor, but please tell me people aren’t that far gone that we would place loyalty to a political party (Democrats), or a cause (abortion)  over the life of a baby. Now, I know some of you may think that we have already lost this war but I  implore you to reconsider what can be done. Up until this point the fight in abortion has been women’s rights and what she can or should be allowed to do with her body.  However at this point we are no longer talking about a woman’s right or her body; we are discussing a living baby, out side of the mother with lungs that can breathe, a heart beating, premature, but yet a living baby. I don’t understand how rational adults vote against providing a child with health care. Is it really ok to kill or let a baby die?!

This month is Black History month and we have been ultra active in showing support for the great strides that our sisters and brothers of color have made and continue to progress to make. That’s loyalty and I love it! I applaud each of you for your efforts to educate the world of our culture. Why do we have to teach so much? Because our greatness is often over looked and stolen. We disproportionately aren’t informed of our greatness unless we tell it to our self, while noticed by the masses, it is often not acknowledge or attributed to black people. Guess what else follows suit, the rate of abortions among black women. It’s happening more often than you may think. Now, don’t leave, this isn’t a pro life article although, I believe physical life starts at conception, that isn’t the matter at hand. The matter is, we should all agree that life outside of the womb is life, so if that is so, why is providing child care to a life out of the question? Furthermore, those will be our little black babies on those tables, in those rooms, why would we give the world the chance to kill us before we have a chance. Could it be loyalty to a fault? Ijs. And yes, I know that other nationalities have abortions and some at higher rates than blacks, but is that the take away. Today my complaint isn’t with the abortion, that’s another subject for another day, today my plead is that when asked to be loyal to something that does not serve you or your tribe/community choose to be disloyal. Take the necessary step back. Examine each action as an independent action, not something that is covered under an umbrella that you have to go with because you chose to stand under that umbrella. You always have a choice. So if you need to step out for a minute, do that. People may see you as disloyal for a minute, but it means you take hold of your freedom as an individual with your own mind, although you share the thoughts and views of others, you still trust your heart when it tells you to disagree on a particular portion of the popular view.  You side with the a political party or group of people or whatever you want, but don’t loose your individuality in the name of loyalty. It’s to precious and you’ll find out in the end, it’s not worth it!
